The first auction I remember attending was in Newport Beach, California. A specialty car auction, I was maybe 12 years old and absolutely beside myself – it wasn’t a car show, no, this was a moving, living, breathing beast of excitement.
The company was selling off a fleet of Rolls-Royces custom painted for Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, a religious cult leader who was behind many devious deeds throughout the world, including election riggings, brain washings, kidnappings, suicides and murders. This was my first exposure to a car auction, and I was hooked. So, for me, it’s exciting to watch a brand-new auction company launch.
Collector Part Exchange under its new arm CPX Auctions, is this company. Run by Chris Bright, the company is specializing in auctions of private collections ranging from automobilia to spare parts — even the occasional collector car. He’s bringing very unique pieces to the table, largely from the Italian schools.
CPX will be hosting their Summer Auction entitled Modena Memories which is an amassment of four 40-year collections representing mostly the Ferrari and Maserati brands. It’s open now with online bidding ending July 30. Some seriously breathtaking pieces are coming on offer like an original 1953 Ferrari racing engine, a Maserati Indy, an original still-in-crate Alfa Romeo dealership lighted sign from the 1990s, artwork of the McLaren 1984 season when the brand won 12 out of 16 races – the art is signed by the drivers of those victories. There are so many other unique and cool pieces, you’ve got to check them out below!
